Animal Disaster Relief: Hurricane Sandy
Though a grant from Abbott and donations from the Vetericyn company, World Vets donated $20,000 worth of veterinary supplies to the Hurricane Sandy disaster relief effort. This has directly benefited clinics in affected areas and will help local veterinarians in the treatment of animals impacted by the super storm.
To further aid animals in areas hit by Hurricane Sandy, we also partnered with P&G Pet Care, who donated more than 88 tons of pet food to the effort. We helped facilitate the donated pet food for shelters in the hardest hit areas such as Atlantic City, NJ. P&G Pet Care are the makers of IAMS, Eukanuba, and Natura pet food brands. World Vets recently had an all female team that traveled to Zanzibar, Tanzania. Working with Zanzibar Animals Affection Society (ZAASO) they provided a 3 day island – wide spay neuter campaign. Services were provided outside of Stone Town, to the north in Nungwi and in the eastern town of Paje. They even squeezed in some time to treat donkeys! We’d like to thank these wonder women, ZAASO and Fondation Brigitte Bardot for making this campaign possible.
As part of our International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program based in Nicaragua, we have a unique opportunity for veterinarians. This way vets are not only confident in what they are teaching but it also allows for students to be exposed to several different approaches. Volunteer instructor positions are also open to licensed veterinary technicians. If you enjoy teaching and/or mentoring others, this is an ideal volunteer opportunity for you!
