international veterinary medicine program

IVM Program Spring Session Results

WorldVetsGroup19During the whole month of March, World Vets operated its International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program out of its Training Center facility located in Granada, Nicaragua. This program is specifically designed for veterinary, pre-veterinary and technician students who wish to gain clinical and practical experience, in addition to immersion within the field of international veterinary medicine. This program also provides volunteer opportunities for licensed veterinarians as well as licensed veterinary technicians as instructors.

As a result of this program, 214 spay/neuter surgeries were performed (during the month of March) on community owned animals that were in need of the operation.  These much needed spay/neuter services, as well as any additional medical treatments, were provided free of charge to pet owners and the community.

Vets! We have your perfect getaway this winter

As part of our International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program based in Nicaragua, we have a unique opportunity for veterinarians. The IVM Program provides veterinary skills training as well as practice to veterinary, pre veterinary as well as veterinary technology students. The goal of this program is to teach students  skills that are clinically relevant and to allow them to perform as many hands-on tasks as possible without compromising patient comfort or care.

Veterinarians participating on this program provide the instruction and are encouraged to teach students their technique. This way vets are not only confident in what they are teaching but it also allows for students to be exposed to several different approaches. Volunteer instructor positions are also open to licensed veterinary technicians. If you enjoy teaching and/or mentoring others, this is an ideal volunteer opportunity for you!

IVM Program Sessions are scheduled for December 2012 & March 2013. See exact date listings here

It’s a Wrap! World Vets IVM Program 2012

World Vets has successfully wrapped up its new training program – the International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program. It was operated for 3 long months in Nicaragua this summer. As part of this program we provided free veterinary care to over 3100 animals (including cats, dogs as well as horses.) Additionally, we had 146 students participate who gained invaluable skills and knowledge, particularly in relation to performing veterinary medicine in a foreign country. We would like to thank our local partners, the 31 volunteer veterinarians as well as the 12 volunteer veterinary technicians who helped make this program such a success.
