World Vets is in Mauritius this week to celebrate World Animal Day. With the support of Fondation Brigitte Bardot and in partnership with PAWS Mauritius, we are providing an island wide free spay neuter campaign. We are also taking this opportunity to help raise awareness about animal welfare and to improve the animal health situation on the island. More news of our visit to follow!
In December 2011, World Vets held its grand opening of our Latin America Surgical Training Center located in Granada, Nicaragua. This center provides free surgical instruction and training opportunities for Latin American veterinarians and upper level veterinary students. We have since begun offering regular training sessions and have now launched its very own website! See Training Center Website
Throughout the year we also use the training center as a base of operations for our International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program. This program is geared towards North American, Australian and European students, though all are welcome, who wish to learn more about practicing veterinary medicine in a foreign country while also giving back to the local animal community.
Attention vet, pre-vet and tech students! We have just posted 2 winter break sessions of our International Veterinary Medicine program. For session 1, click HERE. For session 2, click HERE.
The WORLD VETS INTERNATIONAL VETERINARY MEDICINE PROGRAM held in Granada, Nicaragua, is a surgical training program for veterinary, pre-veterinary and technician students who wish to gain clinical and practical veterinary experience. In addition to surgical instruction, you will participate in a multi-disciplinary veterinary program and cultural experience that not only will enhance your education, but will also give you a broader understanding of international veterinary medicine.
World Vets teams up with author and veterinarian Jessica Vogelsang to spread the word about groundbreaking international animal aid work
Well known writer and web vet Dr. Vogelsang joins forces with international veterinary aid organization World Vets as Media Spokesperson
Fargo, ND (August 30, 2012) – World Vets is pleased to announce that veterinarian Jessica Vogelsang will be joining the organization as media spokesperson. Dr. Vogelsang will serve as the contact person for media regarding World Vets’ international veterinary aid work, disaster response, and their mission to support the health of humans, animals, and ecosystems worldwide.
Dr. Vogelsang joins World Vets with ten years’ experience as a veterinarian, and four years of authorship and social media expertise, most recently as director of Pawcurious Media. She also has extensive experience as an international veterinary volunteer on three continents.
“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to spread awareness about the amazing work World Vets is doing on six continents,” says Dr. Vogelsang. “I saw it firsthand in Tanzania and Nicaragua. The stories that veterinarians and students come back with reinforce to me what a caring and committed group veterinarians are, and how vital our work is to global health. The more people know about the work we are doing, the more services we will be able to offer to people worldwide.”
“We are very excited to have Dr. Vogelsang representing World Vets” says World Vets CEO and founder Dr. Cathy King. “She cares deeply about our mission and we are thrilled to have her as not only our spokesperson but as an advocate for animals around the world.”

Flaco was just your ordinary street dog. His name says it all, Flaco, which is skinny in Spanish. When our veterinary volunteers found him, he was covered in mange and had several open sores with a large abscess. What’s more, he was full of intestinal parasites and had a ruptured ligament in his knee.
Fortunately for Flaco, he was nursed back to health by one of our teams during the International Veterinary Medicine Program operated in Nicaragua this summer. One of our veterinary volunteers, Jessica Harrison, even went a step further and gave him a new home and a new life with her in Florida.
After much anticipation, World Vets has launched its very own online store. Now available for purchase are World Vets branded items for everyday wear and use. If you have been waiting to get your hands on World Vet shirts, hoodies, bags and much more, check out the World Vets store

World Vets has successfully wrapped up its new training program – the International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program. It was operated for 3 long months in Nicaragua this summer. As part of this program we provided free veterinary care to over 3100 animals (including cats, dogs as well as horses.) Additionally, we had 146 students participate who gained invaluable skills and knowledge, particularly in relation to performing veterinary medicine in a foreign country. We would like to thank our local partners, the 31 volunteer veterinarians as well as the 12 volunteer veterinary technicians who helped make this program such a success.
Although World Vets work is primarily operated in foreign countries, we take pride in helping the local Fargo ND/Moorhead MN community where our headquarters are based. Just recently World Vets made two substantial donations to 4 Luv of Dog Rescue and the Human Society Fargo – Moorhead.
To celebrate the opening of their new facility in Moorhead, MN, World Vets delivered supplies to 4 Luv of Dog Rescue valued at $2,097. The donation shipment included more than 500 lbs. of dog food to help the animals at their new facility and in foster homes. Additionally, the veterinary supplies and cat and dog food donated to the Humane Society was valued at $5,800.
We believe every little bit goes a long way and will continue to support the local animal welfare charities in our community.
Veterinary student Shawn Flottmeyer has been a World Vets intern for our International Veterinary Medicine Program this summer in Nicaragua. As the program comes to an end, Shawn will not be going home alone. During the program she fell in love with a female street dog that was treated at World Vets Latin America Surgical Training Center. We are thrilled to not only provide veterinary care for animals in need but to also facilitate a loving home.
Shawn will be starting her third year at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine this fall.
