International Aid for Animals

Couple Makes World Vets a Part of Their Big Day

Lainey & Aron

California newlyweds, Aron Cooperman & Lainey Hu share a love for animals.  Lainey is a veterinarian at Kirkwood Animal Hospital and Aron is an engineer and professional photographer at Open Light Photo.  Together they live in San Jose with their Australian Kelpies, Dally and Cricket (pictured above).  For their big day they asked friends & family to contribute to World Vets and help animals in need around the globe!

The generous pair had a destination wedding in Ambergris Caye, Belize and plan to celebrate with a stateside reception in July of 2015.  Lainey explained that for their big day, she and Aron wanted to give back while encouraging their wedding guests to do the same.  “World Vets is an organization that not only helps more unfortunate countries, but also incorporates teaching students, doctors and technicians alike,” Lainey said of choosing World Vets as a donation recipient.  “It just made sense.”

Lainey began her involvement with World Vets in 2013, when she participated in an Equine project that provided aid to horses in Granada, Nicaragua.  “What better way to see the world and do something more than just sightseeing,” she said of her volunteer experience.  So far, friends & family of Aron and Lainey have raised over $400 in honor of the couple.  All funds raised by this event directly benefits World Vets and goes towards the care of animals that would otherwise have no access to life-saving treatment.

The World Vets team is honored that Aron and Lainey made us a part of their special day. We would like to congratulate them on their recent marriage and thank them for their continued support of World Vets’ mission to improve the health and well being of animals worldwide.

Textbook Drive Benefits Veterinarians and Students in Developing Countries

Donated books in Granada, Nicaragua

Thanks to your support, the World Vets textbook drive was a success! A variety of veterinary textbooks have been collected and distributed benefiting both veterinarians and veterinary students in multiple countries around the globe.

The World Vets Latin America Veterinary Training Center, located in Granada, Nicaragua, now has a free access bookshelf available to Latin American vets and students visiting our training center for free surgical instruction. This provides a variety of materials to those who would otherwise have no access to these types of resources.  Most of the veterinary students in Nicaragua do not have access to any textbooks, so this is a great resource.

Collected textbooks were also distributed to communities in the Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands and Kiribati during the 2013 Pacific Partnership Mission.

Sudan University of Bahri with donated textbooks

Most recently, World Vets was able to help provide veterinary textbooks to Bahri University in Sudan. A special thanks to Dr. Rasha Nouman for hand delivering the textbooks. It was reported that these books have been a great addition to the university’s small library.

Books that were distributed through the textbook drive not only cover a wide range of veterinary subjects, but they also contain up to date and reliable veterinary information and training methods.  Access to these textbooks allow readers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of safe and effective veterinary practices, encouraging a healthier and more sustainable community for their future.

Donated-Textbooks-300x199None of this would be possible without the help of World Vets donors. We can not thank you enough for your support!  World Vets is still collecting monetary donations to help cover the shipping costs for us to send additional veterinary textbooks to those in need. Disaster Alert: Bosnia / Serbia Flood

Massive flooding in Bosnia and Serbia has left millions of animals and people in a dire situation and in desperate need for help.  World Vets has deployed to the region to provide support for animals that have been impacted by this disaster.  Thousands of animals have died from the immediate impact of the floods, but many more livestock and companion animals require urgent assistance. Animals are often not the primary focus during massive disasters and World Vets is committed to bridging this gap and helping them during their greatest time of need.  We depend on your help to provide life saving support for these animals.
