World Vets Celebrates 10 Years!

This year marks World Vets 10 year anniversary! For a decade it has been our mission to improve the health and well being of animals by providing veterinary aid and training in developing countries and by providing disaster relief worldwide. As the info-graphic below shows, in this time, we have undertaken 223 projects worldwide serving over 135,000 animals and providing close to 60,000 hours of veterinary training. What’s more, all services and training have been provided at no cost for beneficiaries.

Why do we do what we do? We strongly believe that all animals deserve kindness and compassion, as well as excellent care. As such, we strive to create a world where all animals have access to skilled veterinary care. To achieve this we operate many programs, most notably veterinary field projects which provide direct veterinary care, in addition to our training programs for students and veterinary professionals alike.

Our work not only depends on the generosity of individuals, foundations and public support. We also rely on volunteers to help us deliver veterinary services and training abroad.Though our programs, we provide countless international volunteer opportunities for veterinary professionals, students aspiring to this vocation and for the everyday animal lover who simply wants to travel with purpose. Since our inception we have deployed over 4500 volunteers with the mandate to make quality veterinary more accessible.

We graciously thank all of our supporters and dedicated volunteers who have been with us throughout the years. Together we have reached a great milestone! We look forward to continuing our work and having an even greater impact with your help!

Join the celebration and help us create a better world for Animals. There are many ways to help and be a part of World Vets mission to improve animal health worldwide. Learn about all the ways you can contribute to our cause here.

Indiegogo Campaign Success!

For many years World Vets has been operating an equine welfare project in Nicaragua to benefit horses in and around the city of Granada. Horses are an important livelihood source for many households as they are relied upon to help carry out daily chores and generate income. Due to difficult socio-economic constraints, these horses are often malnourished and affected by tropical diseases and injuries from their heavy workload.

On our most recent campaign, our team met Pithaya after they were asked to stop by a nearby home that had a sick horse. Upon arrival, they discovered four-year-old Pithaya who was severely malnourished, had several infected wounds, overgrown feet, and evidence of tick borne disease.  Although he was in severe condition, the owners (two young girls and their grandmother) care for him greatly. However, caring for Pithaya has become extremely difficult for them as they have health issues of their own, and no current income source or means to earn money. What`s more, the parents of the children have left the home to seek employment elsewhere.

The World Vets team created an Indiegogo campaign to help pay for Pithaya’s extensive treatment & to provide aid to other Nicaraguan horses & families living in similar conditions. We’re thrilled to announce that we met our Indiegogo goal of raising $5k!  We are so incredibly thankful to everyone who participated! We’d like to extend our thanks to all of our supporters. A special thank you to our dedicated campaign team members Dr. Steve Kruneniski, Dr. Dana Westerman, Elisa Harvey, Cynthia Spanhel, and Amanda Headman for increasing fundraising efforts by spreading the word.

Stay tuned for news and updates on Pithaya & the other horses of Nicaragua that your contributions are supporting! Didn’t get the chance to contribute? It’s not too late! Help a horse by clicking HERE.

Couple Makes World Vets a Part of Their Big Day

Lainey & Aron

California newlyweds, Aron Cooperman & Lainey Hu share a love for animals.  Lainey is a veterinarian at Kirkwood Animal Hospital and Aron is an engineer and professional photographer at Open Light Photo.  Together they live in San Jose with their Australian Kelpies, Dally and Cricket (pictured above).  For their big day they asked friends & family to contribute to World Vets and help animals in need around the globe!

The generous pair had a destination wedding in Ambergris Caye, Belize and plan to celebrate with a stateside reception in July of 2015.  Lainey explained that for their big day, she and Aron wanted to give back while encouraging their wedding guests to do the same.  “World Vets is an organization that not only helps more unfortunate countries, but also incorporates teaching students, doctors and technicians alike,” Lainey said of choosing World Vets as a donation recipient.  “It just made sense.”

Lainey began her involvement with World Vets in 2013, when she participated in an Equine project that provided aid to horses in Granada, Nicaragua.  “What better way to see the world and do something more than just sightseeing,” she said of her volunteer experience.  So far, friends & family of Aron and Lainey have raised over $400 in honor of the couple.  All funds raised by this event directly benefits World Vets and goes towards the care of animals that would otherwise have no access to life-saving treatment.

The World Vets team is honored that Aron and Lainey made us a part of their special day. We would like to congratulate them on their recent marriage and thank them for their continued support of World Vets’ mission to improve the health and well being of animals worldwide.
