Two Teams Return from Campaigns in South America

We have just had two great teams complete campaigns in South America! Both provided free veterinary services, including spay/neuter as well as health consultations and treatments. Such services benefited companion animals in Ecuador and Peru respectively.

We`d like to thank World Vets volunteers on both teams for an outstanding effort as well as our local partners, participating muncipalities, in addition to Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their continual support of these life changing campaigns.

Volunteer in Ecuador & Visit the Galapagos Islands

Since 2009, World Vets has been providing large scale spay/neuter campaigns benefiting animals in the municipalities of Ibarra and Otavalo. Within these last five years, World Vets has established agreements within these areas that have acted to cease municipal sponsored poisoning campaigns in exchange for free spay/neuter services being provided.

Spay/Neuter clinic

Located in northern Ecuador, with the Andes mountains not too far away, volunteers pass through and visit the Equator marker on their way to the project location. Volunteers also have free time to enjoy local sights and attractions and are encouraged to extend their trip by a few days to visit the famous Galapagos Islands.

World Vets will be sending a team to Ecuador November 8 – 15, 2014 to provide a large-scale spay/neuter campaign. The team may also perform any other surgical procedures needed on a case-by-case basis.

The “LVT/RVT” volunteer category is only open to veterinary technicians that are either licensed, registered and/or certified. The LVT/RVT is responsible for administering, monitoring and managing the pre medication as well as the anesthesia given to surgical patients. In short, they run the pre-med/induction station to prepare patients for surgery.

Three Successful Field Operatives Completed

World Vets would like to welcome back it’s teams that recently provided field operatives in Honduras, Dominican Republic and Ecuador. With the combined efforts of our teams, we were able to positively impact and treat close to 1000 animals in just a few days time, including 575 surgical procedures. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers, local partners and Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their support and efforts of these field service projects.

Special Offering for LVT/RVT: Ecuador November 2013

With support from Fondation Brigitte Bardot, PAE – Ibarra and local municipalities, World Vets has been providing regular high volume spay/neuter services in Ecuador since 2009. Spanning the last four years, World Vets has sent 10 veterinary teams (about 150 volunteers) to Ecuador which has brought veterinary care to animals that would otherwise have none.

World Vets has an upcoming volunteer opportunity for an LVT/RVT to Ecuador as part of our long standing small animal project there. We will be sending a team to Ibarra, Ecuador in November 2013 and would like to fill the LVT/RVT position as soon as possible. World Vets Team Ecuador Sets New Record

On our recent visit to Otavalo, Ecuador, a World Vets team provided a large scale spay/neuter campaign with local partners, PAE – Ibarra. We were also joined by a few veterinarians from PAE -Quito who aided our team during the three day campaign. Together our efforts resulted in a record breaking number of surgeries being performed: 268 spay/neuter surgeries.

We thank Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their ongoing support of our work in Ecuador. We also extend our many thanks to those who volunteered their time and energy on this campaign. See pictures

There is just 1 VETERINARIAN spot left open for our July 2013 Otavalo, Ecuador Project. Join us on a trip to the Ecuadorian Andes July 17 – 24, 2013 and provide a three day large scale sterilization campaign in the town of Otavalo!

World Vets has been providing regular high volume spay/neuter services in Ecuador since 2009. We have also secured an agreement with the municipality of Otavalo stipulating that they will not carry out poisoning campaigns in exchange for our free spay/neuter services for community animals.

July & August Volunteer Opportunities still available for Veterinarians

Volunteer veterinarians are still needed for two small animal projects that are scheduled to take place this summer in Ecuador (July) and Nicaragua (August). World Vets has been working in both areas since 2009 and has well established spay/neuter and animal health projects in and around Otavalo/Ibarra, Ecuador and San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.

On a small animal project, veterinarians are typically involved in providing sterilization surgeries for cats and dogs, medical diagnosis and treatment, health consultations, and may be involved in performing other surgeries, teaching and/or instruction to students and/or local volunteers or pet owners.

Aside from three full days of veterinary work, volunteers will have free time to explore the local area and/or do some sightseeing and activities. Whether you like the beach or the mountains, either location has much to offer as a travel destination.

An Outstanding Effort in Ecuador

During the month of March World Vets sent a veterinary team to the Otavalo region of Ecuador in support of our small animal project. We have been working in this region for the past four years with local animal welfare group PAE Ibarra to control the street as well as owned small animal population. We thank Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their continual support of this project as well as our volunteers that put forth an outstanding effort which resulted in 229 free spay/neuter surgeries being performed.
