Pacific Partnership is an annual U.S. Pacific Fleet humanitarian and civic assistance mission designed to work by, with and through host and partner nations, non-government organizations and international agencies to build partnerships and a collective ability to respond to natural disasters. World Vets is a veterinary nongovernmental organization (NGO) that has been represented on the Pacific Partnership mission since 2009. We provide volunteer 
opportunities for veterinary professionals on board this mission and in turn contribute veterinary manpower and skills to accomplish the mission`s objectives. We are now accepting volunteer applications, until January 13th, 2013, from veterinarians, veterinary technicians as well as veterinary students to be considered for a position on our veterinary team. Each year World Vets deploys veterinary professionals on board two US Navy led humanitarian aid missions; Pacific Partnership and Continuing Promise. For the 2013 missions, we will also provide the opportunity for two photojournalists to travel with and document the veterinary and educational services provided by our teams. As part of the 2012 Pacific Partnership mission, a veterinary team is not the only thing that World Vets has on board the USNS Mercy. To support animal welfare efforts in one of the host nations visited, World Vets has shipped 3,000 pounds of veterinary supply and medicine donations. The recipients of our two pallet shipments are animal welfare charities Zen Cats and CARA Welfare based in the Philippines. We are thrilled at this opportunity made possible by the US Navy lead mission. We are equally as pleased to be of assistance to animals in this South East 
Asian nation.
World Vets currently has a veterinary team in Vietnam as part of the Pacific Partnership mission. Our team is engaged in providing veterinary services to all animal types including water buffalo, cattle and dogs. They are working alongside US Army veterinarians and technicians as well as veterinary professionals of the host nation.
World Vets team leader, Dr. Helle Hydeskov, on board the USNS MERCY, talks about the veterinarian civil action program that World Vets has been involved in as part of the 2012 Pacific Partnership mission in Indonesia. Dr. Hydeskov was also part of World Vets team on board a similar civil- military mission, Continuing Promise, which provided aid to the Caribbean and Latin America.

World Vets team for the first rotation of the Pacific Partnership 2012 mission is now on board the USNS MERCY. They have quickly gotten to work preparing their presentations and lectures that will be given in the four host nations to be visited; Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia. These presentations are commonly referred to as SMEE’s – Subject Matter Expert Exchanges. As such, our team will not only be providing direct veterinary aid on this mission, but will also be educating on various topics and issues relating to veterinary medicine.
Pacific Partnership is an annual humanitarian aid mission operated by the US Navy in collaboration with host and partner nations, foreign military and medical personnel as well as non governmental organizations. In a joint effort, medical, dental and veterinary assistance is provided. The USNS Mercy has now departed San Diego and is on its way to South East Asia! World Vets is proud to be on board and providing veterinary services to host nations on this 4 month civil-military humanitarian aid mission.
