Veterinary Care Continues in Galapagos

326041674_741730820417045_959842773806102612_n World Vets’ Conservation Medicine Program continues to serve dogs and cats in the local community of San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos Islands. A range of veterinary services, including thousands of surgeries, hundreds of medical consultations, and other preventative and emergency care have been provided free-of-charge since the opening of World Vets’ veterinary clinic in November 2021. This first and only clinic on the island provides quality animal care, helps prevent pet overpopulation, and aims to protect the precious biodiversity of the Galapagos Islands.

Three week-long sterilization campaigns between January and April have already provided over 450 free spay-and-neuter surgeries this year. Two more volunteer teams are scheduled to participate in high-volume surgery campaigns in June and December. All planned and upcoming volunteer opportunities to Galapagos are posted to our trips page.

Our work is made possible by our amazing allies – volunteers, members, and donors. We are also thankful for our partner organizations, including Agencia de Bioseguridad para Galápagos, Animal Balance, Lakefield Veterinary Group and GAD Municipal de San Cristóbal Galápagos, for their invaluable sponsorship and collaboration.

Support this important conservation work encouraging the health of island pets and preserving the well-being of native wildlife by donating to World Vets. Give now!

Siem Reap, Cambodia: Finishing 2022 Strong

319560866_711952106966310_5435321406918872773_nWorld Vets ended year 2022 by providing much needed veterinary care to 600 dogs and cats in Cambodia. A small volunteer team of veterinarians, technicians, and assistants delivered free spay-and-neuter surgeries, vaccinations, medical consultations, parasite control, and other veterinary treatments to animals in and around the region of Siem Reap. World Vets partnered with the local organization Paw Patrol to set up clinics in three different pagodas around the city and received valuable financial backing and sponsorship for the campaign from MSD Animal Health.

World Vets is thankful for our partners, sponsors, members, and supporters who play a critical role in enabling World Vets to offer veterinary services to underserved animals and communities around the world. The people of Cambodia came from far and wide, many traveling by scooter and tuk-tuk, to reach our outreach clinics. They were very appreciative to receive care for their beloved pets. We look forward to continuing the important work of providing essential veterinary care to animals in 2023.

While the war and crisis in Ukraine continues, thousands of refugees have left their homes and are fleeing to safety in surrounding countries. The situation has displaced hundreds of dogs, cats, and other cherished pets – many in need of food, shelter, and veterinary care.

We know many in World Vets’ community share our concern for the pets and people of Ukraine. World Vets is mobilizing its international aid network and organizing funds and resources to assist pets in need.

Dr. Marty Becker, veterinarian, founder of the “Fear Free” movement, and member of World Vets’ Advisory Board, is heading near the Ukrainian borders of Romania and Moldova to coordinate efforts with our existing local partners in these two countries. Through these partners, World Vets will be providing ongoing free veterinary services to pets from Ukraine that are in need of care.

As World Vets steps in to help, we are asking our supporters to contribute to our efforts. We urge you to join us in this special mission to provide essential veterinary aid and support.

This fundraiser has ended.  Thank you to all who donated.
