Student Summer Opportunity: Nicaragua

World Vets International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program is our long established student program. Based at our Latin America Veterinary Training Center, which is located in Granada, Nicaragua, the IVM Program facilitates a unique learning opportunity and cultural experience for students. Students are exposed to working in both clinical as well as field condition settings in a foreign country. They are also able to get hands on training, from highly skilled instructors, in a low stress environment conducive to learning.

We have just completed our Spring program, which welcomed thirty seven students and volunteer instructors over a two week time span. Not only did students walk away having gained immeasurable skills, they also provided free veterinary and sterilization services for over 200 animals.

Now Available! International Student Internship

World Vets is now offering an internship opportunity for students at its Latin America Veterinary Training Center, located in Granada, Nicaragua. This opportunity is specifically geared towards pre-veterinary and/or veterinary technician students, as there is no surgical component involved for participants.

Internships are offered throughout the year and are for a minimum of one month (4 weeks), though can last up to 2-3 consecutive months. Interns will serve an auxiliary role in day to day clinic activities. For instance, helping to prep patients for surgery, monitoring vitals during surgery and tending to patients in recovery. There will also be other tasks and/or activities that interns may be involved with depending on the events scheduled during their internship.

San Andres Island, Colombia: April 21 – 30, 2015

A standard veterinary field project is scheduled for 8 days/7 nights, with 3 veterinary service days. However, both April opportunities are for a 9-10 day duration and consist of five days dedicated to providing veterinary care and services for animals in need.

For students looking to get surgical or clinical experience over their spring break, our International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program is the perfect fit. Spring session dates with availability are: March 21 – 28, 2015.

We also have opportunities for students, as well as vets and techs on veterinary field projects to Roatan, Honduras and Charlestown, Nevis. Both are small animal, spay/neuter, projects.

Recruiting Volunteers for One Health Project

ATTENTION prospective volunteers! We are currently recruiting veterinarians and a licensed technician on an upcoming One Health field service project in the Caribbean! Join our team to make a difference in lives of animals in San Andres Island and have free time to enjoy the island too! This project is scheduled to run July 26 – August 2, 2014. World Vets has been working with the San Andres Island Department of Health since 2012. Together we are bringing much needed veterinary services to the small animal population and in turn improving the overall public health on the island. Our large scale spay/neuter and animal health campaigns target both roaming and owned animals.

Attention Students! IVM Program: Winter 2013 Sessions Finalized

ATTENTION STUDENTS!

IVM Program sessions have been scheduled for Winter 2013. Dates have now been posted on the Upcoming Projects page. World Vets members will have the opportunity to register early for student positions. Following this, registration will open on World Vets website for general sign up. Please note that the full program fee amount will be due at the time of registration.

World Vets International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program is World Vets student program. Operating out of our Latin American Veterinary Training Center in Granada, Nicaragua, it provides international students with an opportunity to gain practical veterinary experience. Students read more here

DVM & LVT/RVT Instructors are also needed for this program. To qualify for an instructor position, you must either be a licensed veterinarian and/or technician and have a minimum of one year clinical experience. Previous teaching experience is not a prerequisite. This is a volunteer opportunity with limited expenses for you.

World Vets International Veterinary Medicine Program has begun

A new program that World Vets has initiated this year, an International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program, is now well underway. This program is specifically geared towards students. It has been designed for those who are currently enrolled at an academic institution in pre- veterinary, veterinary and/or veterinary technician related studies.

Simply put, World Vets IVM Program provides students with the opportunity to experience veterinary medicine in a foreign country. As part of this program, students have the opportunity to not only learn new skills but be able to put those newly acquired skills to work. Students are involved in multiple clinical environments performing duties related to sterilization surgery as well as health clinics providing health exams and preventative care, in addition to field opportunities with horses.

Furthermore, this program also seeks to inspire its student participants to continue to give back to the international animal community once they have completed their studies.

Our IVM program is based out of our Latin American Surgical Training Center in Granada, Nicaragua. It is fully equipped with all modern equipment such as gas anesthesia, central oxygen, pulse oximeters and fluid pumps. We’d like to extend our many thanks to Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their support of this center.
