World Vets volunteers help hundreds of animals over Spring Break

This past month World Vets had veterinary teams in five different countries providing free veterinary services for animals in need.

We had teams in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Ecuador carrying out high volume sterilization campaigns benefiting underserved populations of dogs and cats.

We also had a team in Honduras facilitating annual health exams and treatments to wildlife and exotic species, in addition to students in Nicaragua taking part in our International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program.

Multiple Campaigns Held over Spring Break

This past month World Vets had multiple teams in Latin America and the Caribbean providing free veterinary services. We operated small animal projects in Cozumel, Nicaragua and Ecuador, in addition to having a team work with exotics in Roatan, Honduras. Combined, these campaigns provided over 1000 free sterilizations and reached hundreds more.

We’d like to thank our local partners for hosting these campaigns, as well as our dedicated team members for choosing to volunteer and travel with us over their spring break!

“Team Roatan” Successfully Delivered despite Adverse Weather Conditions

This past week World Vets had a team on the island of Roatan, Honduras to provide free veterinary services for companion animals. With the “wet season” apparently not quite over, they experienced a couple of downpours during clinic days. Nevertheless, many animals were still in attendance and our team was able to successfully deliver services despite adverse weather conditions. Sterilization surgeries as well as health consultations to diagnose and treat a variety of ailments were provided.

We`d like to thank World Vets volunteers and local partners for an outstanding effort, in addition to Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their continual support of these much needed campaigns. World Vets has been committed to improving the overall health and well being of animals on the island of Roatan since 2008.

Continual Success: World Vets Small Animal Project in Roatan

140326_3366Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands located off the coast of Honduras in the Caribbean. Even though it may be the largest island of the archipelago, there is still more to be desired in relation to the health services provided for the small animal population. This is in part due to the limited number of practicing veterinarians on the island as well as the local population’s inability to pay for veterinary services.

To address the growing need for accessible veterinary care, World Vets has 140326_2983been sending veterinary teams to Roatan since 2008. Our teams not only provide much needed spay/neuter services to help control the small animal population, they also provide medical consultations, in addition to treatments for common skin issues, parasites and more.

As a result of World Vets and the efforts of our veterinary teams, up to 1000 surgical procedures have been performed and over 140326_28392000 animals have received quality veterinary care. All of which also contributes to the improvement of the overall animal and human health on the island.

We recently had a volunteer veterinary team in Roatan where hundreds of animals received quality veterinary care and services at no cost. We’d like to thank our dedicated volunteers, local partners and island support for the continual success of this small animal project. We also thank Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their continual support of our efforts there. See pictures of our most recent campaign here

Three Successful Field Operatives Completed

131113_0510World Vets would like to welcome back it’s teams that recently provided field operatives in Honduras, Dominican Republic and Ecuador. With the combined efforts of our teams, we were able to positively impact and treat close to 1000 animals in just a few days time, including 575 surgical procedures. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers, local partners and Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their support and efforts of these field service projects.

A Successful Veterinary Campaign in Roatan

130322_1377We have just completed a successful veterinary campaign Roatan, Honduras. Our veterinary team provided not only free spay/neuter services but an animal outreach clinic which provided free health consultations and preventative health treatments to small animals. During our visit, we performed 160 surgeries and treated over 350 animals. One of our patients was a dog that jumped off a roof but was lucky enough to receive special emergency surgery from our outstanding volunteers.

We would like to thank Fondation Brigitte Bardot, our volunteers on Team Roatan, Sandra & Al Zeilstra and all of the local contributors that continue to support our efforts on the island.
