World Vets operates multiple international field service projects throughout the year, many of which have volunteer opportunities for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, students and assistants. All volunteer opportunities are open to any nationality.
The veterinary technician LVT/RVT category is only open to veterinary technicians that are licensed, registered and/or certified.
On a small animal project, the LVT/RVT usually takes the lead on running the pre-med/induction station to induce anesthesia and prepare patients for surgery. This includes:
- Administering, monitoring and managing the pre-medication given to surgical patients.
- Administering, monitoring and managing the anesthesia given to surgical patients.
- Assisting with surgical prep and patient monitoring.
- *Veterinary technicians should be able to place IV catheters
