Q:  Tell us about yourself and your experience with animals?

A:  I grew up in Southern California raising “slightly illegal” exotic bantam chickens since I was five (there were fewer backyard chicken laws for cities then). Having pet chickens, tortoises, snakes, rabbits, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, and working as a wrangler in Wyoming all solidified my desire to become a veterinarian.

Q:  What is a fun fact about yourself?

A:  I still ride my skateboard every day to work.

Q:  What motivates you to volunteer with World Vets?

A:  Volunteering with World Vets gives me a chance to interact and learn from people around the world while performing a public service to help animals with my veterinary training.

Q:  What was your favorite World Vets moment?

A:  I traveled to the Philippines with World Vets in response to Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). We visited a large community farm in Daanbantayan, Northern Cebu, which was decimated by the typhoon. We had spent the afternoon treating and examining dogs, cattle, carabao, pigs, goats, chickens, and I even met a large tom turkey strutting his stuff around the farm. Tired, sweaty, and dirty, we were invited into the shade by the farmer’s wife for the best fresh made lemonade I’ve ever had, and I talked to a farmer about his peanut plants and he pulled a few up from the ground to show me how they grew. While treating and interacting with animals is a great part of the World Vets experience (carabao are my new favorite), helping and meeting people during my volunteering with World Vets has been most rewarding.

World Vets simply could not operate without our amazing volunteers and cannot thank them enough.  Click here to join the World Vets volunteer team!
